Home improvement

Last reviewed 17/08/2009: any recent updates in this colour.

Lenders will often allow you to re-mortgage your home to release money to do home improvements. If you want to do this you should speak to your lender.

Local authorities (LAs) used to provide a number and range of grants for necessary home improvement works. This system has changed and LAs now have a broad power to offer financial and other assistance for home repair and improvement. Each LA has their own policy and you should contact your own LA to see if any help is available.
